Grade 4 Waste Audit
Today Gr. 4 welcomed Peterborough Green Up. We conducted a waste audit together. This allowed us to practice our estimation and mass measurement skills. Now we are ready to set goals to be an even greener school!
Using Google Drive During Parent Teacher Interviews
I have always found that sharing samples of student work during parent/teacher interview time has been a beneficia practice. The classroom IPad has allowed me to easily access electronic copies of student work that have been stored in Google Drive. This has been very useful because it has given me an opportunity to highlight key observations at the click of a button. Sharing these observations with parents and communicating the chosen direction of a student's individualized goal pathway has been very well received. I think this may be an excellent way to start delving into Student-Led Conferences in the future. Very excited to have this method of communication accessible to my students and parents.
Gr. 4 Stop Action Action
Hollywood,here I come!
I am now a movie producer, thanks to the power of Lego Movie Maker. We have been using this fun and interactive app to share our learning in Science. Students have made stop animation movies of their body systems. This has been fun and engaging but also a great tool for students who struggle with written tasks as they have a polished piece to share that they can be proud of. We are still figuring how to add sound, so right now I am going for the Oscars in the Silent Film categories. Next stage of the learning curve may get us an Oscar for Best Film overall.
Using Pic Collage
In September my Empower Reading students established reading goals that gave them a purpose for learning to become better readers. Pic Collage was an easy and fun tool to post their goals!
Oral language: Core French
For the students that are apprehensive to present to the class, they are given the opportunity to present orally for the teacher through the iPad. This has worked well for many in the grade 7/8 level.
Creating Storage Files
Today I learned how to create teacher files. I then learned how to drop my prep and post Empower assessment spread sheets , student reading goals created on pic collage and student assessment feedback videos into Ms. Brioux and Mrs. Kupers's files.

We are going to be using Google classroom for our writing portfolio for term two, and perhaps for some more applications thoughtout the term. It can also be used to provide ongoing feedback in an electronic format. So far we are very engaged are looking forward to using Google Classroom thought the term.

Peer Feedback
The FDK students are busy learning about patterns. They used materials around the room to make ABB patterns. I took pictures of the patterns with the IPad and we viewed them on the Smartboard using Apple TV. The students were able to give their peers feedback on their patterns.
Using iPads to Explore Forces
We used our iPads to explore magnetic forces in our classroom and school. We found out some very interesting things and were surprised by some things that were and were not magnetic. Like the 'door frame' - magnetic....where the'door handle' was not magnetic? We thought the opposite would be true. Why is this so?.... Well we are going to find out! Here are some results from our investigations. Each group of students made a pic collage and we put them altogether to talk about our findings.
Pic Collage Posters
Students used the iPads to research information about their name. Then they used Pic Collage to create posters to display their findings. The posters only took us 1 hour of class time to make, and the students did great at following 'criteria' for an effectve poster. Still proving to be one of our most favourite and easy to use as in grade 3!
